Mail changes and important info
Today I went through with some long overdue changes on the Chillat.net sites dealing with how the various e-mail domains are handled.
The first and most important change is that we now have a proper webmail up and running at mail.chillat.net (with optional https support). This webmail is running RoundCube, which comes with a very nice "ajaxy" interface.
Just remember to log in with the full e-mail address as the account name.
The second change is that the certificates have been refreshed and are now properly signed by CaCert. This goes for both the web mail and smtp/imap/pop3.
And finally, the mail server has been changed to mail.chillat.net, so make sure to update it in your e-mail clients or you will receive warnings about the certificate domain not matching the actual domain.
Linea is back online
After a minor mishapp Linea is now back online. She decided to throw in the towel as the installation got corrupt due to some very unfortunate events during a distribution upgrade. Everything should however be back up and running now, including the jabber server.
Report any errors you get on the Chillat site in case we missed anything in the process.
DNS problems are still going on
This caused issues with the Jabber server, as it was all of a sudden unable to connect to the main database server.
The chillat.net jabber server is back to normal. The ownage.eani.net server however isn't.
Hopefully this issue will resolve itself shortly.
Power outage and DNS problems
We are back from all the trouble. This time a power outage blacked out half of Karlstad, including the Internet connection and the power supply to Tira. Now that's why we really need a UPS.
The DNS has also somewhat been bugging, probably due to some sort of overload at our DNS provider, afraid.org. Fingers crossed it will start working again soon.
Tira replaced
Tira has finally been replaced, let's all welcome Gaia to the family. Gaia has taken over the role of Tira as the main server of the Chillat.net empire and should be way more reliable.
Sophia and Linea are back.
Something funky happened with the network connection here this morning, causing all boxes to lose their IP and be unable to acquire new ones. After a manual refresh and update of the DNS records things are now back to a working state.
Everything back to normal
Finally, we seem to have been able to isolate the problem with Tira. From the looks of it, it was an external USB harddrive that caused the corruption and subsequent system failures.
Everything should be back up and running at full performance now, and hopefully it will stay that way.
And she's down...
Tira went down tonite and refuses to come back up. We will perform full diagnostics on her tonite, and if we can't recessitate her we will bring up Miranda again to take her place until we can get things sorted out.
This means that the following services will be offline during the day: Microblog, Forums, Blogs, Netradio, Games, and Mail. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
Tira is back up
Tira is back up, finally. Something went terribly wrong overnight, and the box decided to hickup and halt. We're still not sure what the exact nature of the hardware fault is, but there are still indications towards memory corruption.
If you got hardware to spare, please drop us a mail :)
DNS finally updated
The DNS has finally been updated. Due to the fact that we haven't been able to isolate the stability issue with tira, the jabber server will continue to run on linea for the time being.
The microblog at chillat.net as well as all the user blogs will however remain on tira.
Until we are able to diagnose this issue further, the Laconi.ca XMPP bot will not be started. The good news however is that we have found the problem behind the inability to add yourself to the bots roster. So, once everything has been sorted, you will again be able to add the bot to your roster and see it as online in your buddy list.
More technical difficulties
Tira (the main server) is back up again. But now our DNS provider is overloaded instead it seems. We are gonna run some diagnostics, and for now the jabber server will remain on Linea, but the microblog and user blogs should soon be back to life.
Again, we apologize for any inconvenience.
Technical Difficulties
Chillat.net is currently experiencing problems with faulty hardware. We apologize for the instability and any inconvenience this may cause.
This includes the microblog at chillat.net as well as the blogs hosted on subdomains, such as noccy.chillat.net and axon.chillat.net. The XMPP/Jabber server is also affected. The backup server will be operative if the issue can not be resolved within a reasonable timespan.
We are working on resolving these issues as soon as possible.
